On a trip to Las Vegas I came across a building site that was surrounded by an enormous construction wall. The glaring white of its surface was exacerbated, or activated, by the desert sun and the pedestrians walking in front of it were in stark contrast to the white facade. No identifiable clues told us this was Las Vegas; no fountains, no Eifel Tower, no white tigers. These walking people were caught in a limbo between events and destinations, untethered to a context. They were actors fresh off the stage and yet still costumed for the production.
To take the photos I stood in the median divide on Las Vegas Boulevard. As I was shooting across 3 lanes of traffic no one saw my camera or I. This is how I work best, watching from afar and recording my fellow humans going about their quotidian tasks/pleasures, complete strangers revealing their unique individuality through a posture, a walk, a gesture.
